Yeh very difficult to get a decent DoF that does not slow the shutter right down.
Dont make the mistake i did and buy a cheap tripod they are ok for snapshots but no good for macro. I kept doing macros that where "soft" and could not work out what i was doing wrong until i discovered that everytime the shutter closed it created a minute movement that was enough to slightly blur the macro.I went out and bought a new tripod not the most expensive but not the cheapest either and all my macros are now sharp.
Also i dont think photos always have to be sharp and this photo is really good as it is.
